The project will encompass building livestock barns, a dairy factory outfitted with production equipment, and programmes for training young people in Balat. This marks the fourth collaboration between the Japanese embassy and the NHASD since 2008.

On 11 March, Japanese Ambassador to Egypt Oka Hiroshi and NHASD's Executive Director Nady Kamel Youssef signed a grant contract for Japanese Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Project (KUSANONE).

During the signing ceremony, Ambassador Hiroshi expressed his appreciation for this continuous partnership and the association's past agricultural projects. He hopes this new initiative, like others under the KUSANONE programme, will bring prosperity to Balat.

The year 2024 marks the 30th anniversary of the KUSANONE programme in Egypt, Hiroshi said, expressing his desire to continue assisting Egypt by implementing this programme with various non-profit organizations (NGOs).

On the other hand, Youssef expressed gratitude for Japan's support, highlighting KUSANONE's role as a pioneer in addressing community needs. He also commended the programme's comprehensive approach which considers social, economic, and environmental factors to ensure lasting benefits.

The KUSANONE programme provides direct and small-scale financial support to NGOs, including those in local communities.

Since 1994, Japan has contributed over $10 million to support 179 projects across various sectors like education, healthcare, sanitation, vocational training, women's empowerment, and disability support, working with 129 NGOs throughout the country.
