Liverpool eye summer move for Frankfurt's in-form Marmoush: Report

Liverpool are eyeing a move to sign Eintracht Frankfurt and Egypt international forward Omar Marmoush in the summer, according to a report in German outlet Bild.

Marmoush, 25, has enjoyed a stellar debut season at Frankfurt, emerging as the Bundesliga club's top scorer with 15 goals and six assists in 32 appearances across all competitions.

Signed on a free transfer from Wolfsburg last summer, the versatile forward has played a key role in Frankfurt's push for European qualification.

His impressive performances have attracted the attention of several Premier League clubs, with Liverpool reportedly leading the chase. However, the Reds could face competition from Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle United, who have also been linked with Marmoush in the past.

The report claims Liverpool are keen on the 27-cap Egyptian international, who also holds Canadian citizenship.

Marmoush's contract with Frankfurt runs until 2027, and Bild suggests the player harbours ambitions of playing in England.

The asking price for Marmoush is expected to be around €50 million (£42.5 million). The report adds that Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, a close compatriot of Marmoush, could play a part in convincing him to move to Anfield.

However, Salah's future at Liverpool remains uncertain with just over a year left on his contract. While the winger is reportedly open to an extension, the lure of lucrative offers from the Saudi Pro League remains a factor.

The final decision on any potential move for Marmoush will likely rest with Liverpool's incoming CEO of football Michael Edwards and sporting director Richard Hughes, who will oversee squad planning and recruitment.

Marmoush in sparkling form

Marmoush has been in excellent form recently, contributing three goals and three assists in his last five Bundesliga games since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2023).

He offers tactical flexibility, having played as a support striker, winger, and even leading the line for Frankfurt this season.

The Cairo-born forward began his career in Wolfsburg's youth ranks in 2017, before progressing to the senior team.

He spent four seasons with Wolfsburg, making just 48 appearances, with loan spells at St Pauli and Stuttgart.

Marmoush established himself in the first team during the 2022-23 season before opting to leave on a free transfer last summer.
