Veteran lawyer Abdel-Halim Allam re-elected head of Egyptian Bar Association

Abdel-Halim Allam, a veteran lawyer and current head of the Egyptian Lawyers’ Syndicate (Bar Association), won on Monday a new term till 2028.

Allam won with 23,955 votes while his rivals former head of the syndicate and veteran lawyer Sameh Ashour got only 20,316 votes and Nabil Abdel-Salem 12,000 votes.

More than 58,000 votes were cast at 488 polling stations across the country on Saturday.

The number of registered voters was 322,152 members.

15 candidates were competing for the position of head while 253 candidates competed for the syndicate’s board seats.

Allam previously won in the 2022 elections, succeeding the late Rajai Attiya.

Allam, hailing from Sohag governorate, graduated with a law degree from Alexandria University in 1985. He has served in many leadership positions in the Bar Association since the 1990s. 

He was elected as head of the Alexandria Bar Association in 2021 after having previously served from 2012 to 2016. He had been elected as chairman of the Legislative Committee in the House of Representatives in 2010.
