Sisi congratulates Abbas on new Palestinian gov't

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi congratulated on Sunday in a phone call Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on forming the new government, expressing hopes for its success in fulfilling the aspirations of the Palestinian people, the Egyptian presidency announced.

President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's continuous commitment to providing all forms of support to the Palestinian people and leadership.

President Abbas announced the new Palestinian government in a presidential decree on Thursday.

The new Palestinian government was sworn in on Sunday in Ramallah.

The two leaders discussed the latest developments in Gaza, Egypt’s efforts to reach an immediate and sustainable ceasefire, and increasing humanitarian aid flow into Gaza.

They also emphasized continued efforts towards a fair settlement of the Palestinian issue and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, along the borders of 4 June 1967.
