“The Mossad, Israel Security Agency (ISA), and Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) negotiating team will return this afternoon from Cairo at the conclusion of an additional intensive round of negotiations,” the government statement said, adding that in the framework of the talks and "under useful Egyptian mediation, the mediators formulated an updated proposal for Hamas."
“Israel expects the mediators to take vigorous action regarding Hamas to advance the negotiations toward a deal,” it said, adding that Israel is continuing to make all necessary efforts to secure the release of captives from Hamas.
Indirect talks to reach a truce between Israel and Hamas restarted a new round in Cairo on Sunday according to news reports.
In recent weeks, negotiators from Egypt, Qatar, and the US have held several rounds of negotiations in Cairo, Doha and Paris to reach a prisoner swap and ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas but failed to seal a deal.
