The closure comes due to strong winds and high waves, the authority said in a statement, noting the sea waves are between 3 and 4 metres high, and the sea condition is very turbulent.

All maritime activities have also been stopped to preserve the safety of navigation, the authority added, according to the Egyptian state news agency (MENA).

Egypt is experiencing a low-pressure system, which has decreased temperatures by 3-4 degrees Celsius.

Cold air masses are also prevalent during nighttime, giving a winter-like atmosphere.

Rainfall of varying intensity is expected today across Egypt, including Greater Cairo, Nile Delta, and South Sinai.

These weather conditions would persist until Wednesday, with improvement expected starting  Thursday.

The EMA urged citizens to bundle up in the evenings against the cold.
