Submissions for El Gouna Film Festival (GFF) opened on Monday for the festival's upcoming seventh edition, scheduled to take place from 24 October 24 to 1 November in the Red Sea resort town.

The submission window opened on 15 April and will close on 15 July.

The festival statement noted that selected films will compete for the El Gouna Star awards and a total cash prize of $234,000.

GFF announced on their website that movies focusing on humanitarian topics could vie for the Cinema for Humanity Audience Award, and those tackling environmental concerns have a chance to win the El-Gouna Green Star Award.

"Each year, we're captivated by the creativity and passion showcased by filmmakers,” the festival's Artistic Director Marianne Khoury stated in the press release.

Khoury added that the festival has seen a remarkable rise in submissions, from 400 in 2017 to 1,400 in 2013.

“We look forward to continuing our quest to discover cinematic gems, new voices and diverse perspectives in cinema,” she said.

Last year’s festival programming included 80 films, comprising 12 feature-length fiction films, 12 feature-length documentaries, and 21 short films in the official competition.

Filmmakers can visit the festival's official submission website to access the entry form and find detailed guidelines.
