AUC to hold symposium on health and aged care

The American University in Cairo (AUC) will host a symposium on "Innovations in Health and Aged Care Knowledge Transfer" at its New Cairo headquarters on Thursday to delve into the latest advancements in healthcare and elderly care.

The symposium marks the inaugural collaboration between Flinders University in Australia, King Abdulaziz University in Saudi Arabia, and the AUC, under the auspices of the Australian-Arab Relations Council at the Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 

The collaboration is meant to bolster scientific cooperation programmes between Australia and the Middle East and North Africa region.

Organized by the AUC and spearheaded by Professor Dr. Ahmed Taher, director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Journalism and Media, alongside Professor Dr. Angie Abdel-Shafi, dean of the Faculty of Administrative and Governmental Sciences and Law at Flinders University in Australia, the symposium will be synchronized across the three universities and broadcast live on their respective websites.

Dr. Taher emphasized that the symposium aims to highlight the role of ongoing technological advancements in healthcare and elderly care. To foster global exchange of experiences in these fields, the symposium will host a diverse lineup of speakers, professors, and experts from various disciplines, including psychiatry, hospital management, care for the visually impaired, architecture, interior design, artificial intelligence, and medical resource management.

Speakers include Professor Dr. Osama Refaat, who heads the Psychiatry Unit for the Elderly at Cairo University, Professor Dr. Basil Kamel, an expert in architecture and cultural theory at the AUC, and international expert Doaa Mabrouk, founder and executive director of the Baseera Foundation for the Care of People with Visual Impairments. Additionally, Dr. Hisham Moneib, head of the Artificial Intelligence Department at the 57357 Foundation, will also be speaking at the event.
