Egyptian, Turkish FMs discuss ways to advance bilateral ties

Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry held a tête-à-tête with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan as he landed in Turkey on Saturday following a one-day visit to South Africa on Friday.

Both ministers discussed means to advance ties between Egypt and Turkey and tackle the current regional and international challenges, according to a statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Shoukry is also set to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

“The visit comes within the framework of the steps taken by Egypt and Turkey to enhance the pace of cooperation and raise the level of bilateral relations,” read the statement.

Shoukry’s meetings in Turkey will follow up on the implementation of what was agreed upon during the recent meeting of Egyptian and Turkish presidents in Cairo.

The Egyptian minister will discuss with Turkish officials ways to confront challenges and crises on the regional and international levels, added the statement.
