The new schedule will be in effect from Wednesday, 8 May until 20 July, according to a post on the company’s official Facebook page.

It added that the maximum duration for each interval will be two hours.

Scheduled power cuts resumed in April after a brief hiatus for the holy month of Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr vacation.

The load-shedding programme began in July 2023 to ease the growing strain on the country's gas network caused by rising temperatures and increased air conditioning usage.

Egypt’s cabinet estimates that the programme will save the country $1 billion, savings they say will go towards buying necessary supplies like foodstuffs and medicines.
