Ahram Online , Wednesday 15 May 2024

Ahly players gear up for a significant challenge next Saturday against Esperance de Tunis in the first leg of the CAF Champions League final, according to statements released by the Egyptian club.

"Certainly, the match against Esperance is difficult; we are well aware it's a final and against a great opponent with a history of winning championships," veteran goalkeeper and captain Mohamed El-Shennawy said.

Moreover, Ahly's backup goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir echoed respect for Esperance but pointed out the Egyptian team's recent dominance in their meetings.

"The last two times we played against Esperance, the advantage was ours in Tunisia and Cairo," he said.

Several Ahly players expressed their aspirations for the championship.

Midfielder Emam Ashour dreams of his first Champions League title, while forward Percy Tau expressed eagerness to contribute to the club's history.

Defender Ali Maaloul stressed that past victories do not guarantee success. "The team that plays better during the 90 minutes is the one who wins," he said.

"Finals have no big names," Mohamed Abdel-Moneim emphasized.

"Ahly's fans always stand behind the players. I promise the fans we will win the title," playmaker Mohamed Magdy "Afsha"  vowed.

Additionally, defender Yasser Ibrahim emphasized the importance of team unity over individual participation.

"The most important thing is that the team wins regardless of the player who participates," he said.

The first leg will be next Saturday at Rades Stadium, with an expected crowd of 27,000 Esperance fans, while the return leg will be 25 May at Cairo Stadium.
