The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced on Thursday it will provide Egypt with advanced equipment to enhance airport security.

A delegation from the US government agency held a meeting with Minister of Civil Aviation Mohamed Abbas Helmy in Cairo on Thursday.

The TSA delegation “will provide the ministry with a host of modern devices used in American airports and the technical support and training needed to develop the security capabilities of the Egyptian civil aviation sector,” read a statement by the Egyptian aviation ministry.

The delegation will also provide “all means of support and expertise” necessary to redesign Passenger Terminal 3 at Cairo International Airport, the statement added.

The moves are meant to reduce passengers' waiting time and facilitate procedures.

The meeting tackled the establishment of a modernized regional centre in Egypt for security training.

Equipment for the centre will be provided by the US for free, according to the statement.

The TSA's visit comes as part of efforts to enhance cooperation and exchange experiences between Egypt and the US in the field of aviation security, the statement noted.

During the meeting, Helmy reviewed the security procedures currently applied at Egyptian airports, highlighting Egypt's efforts to enhance airport security technologically.
