"Club president Hussein Labib informed me to choose the appropriate time for my retirement. I've decided to retire at the end of next season and will not fulfil the entire two-year contract," Shikabala, who signed a new contract in February, told MBC Masr 2.

Shikabala expressed the emotional weight of his decision, particularly after a limited role in the recent Confederation Cup final victory against Renaissance Berkane.

"It was difficult for me in the Confederation Cup final, I was tense due to not playing," he admitted.

Shikabala's influence extends beyond statistics. He has been a key figure in Zamalek's success, collecting 12 trophies including four Egyptian League titles, five Egypt Cups, the prestigious 2002/03 CAF Super Cup, and the 2023 Confederation Cup title.

On the international stage, Shikabala represented Egypt on 29 occasions, scoring one goal and providing four assists.

The 38-year-old, who began his professional career with Zamalek in 2003, enjoyed stints abroad with PAOK (Greece), Al-Wasl (UAE), Sporting Lisbon (Portugal), Al-Raed (Saudi Arabia), and Apollon (Greece).
