The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced on Thursday that Pyramids FC defender Mohamed El-Chibi has been suspended for six matches and fined EGP 100,000 for violating its regulations.

El-Chibi breached EFA rules by pursuing civil court action against Ahly player Hussein El-Shahat, whom he accused of assaulting him.

Earlier today, the Nasr City misdemeanor court sentenced El-Shahat to a one-year suspended prison sentence and a five-year ban from sports activities.

El-Chibi and Pyramids FC were reportedly unhappy with the initial EFA sanctions against El-Shahat, which included a two-game suspension and a 20,000 EGP fine.

The 31-year-old Moroccan player claimed he suffered "significant physical, financial, and moral damages" due to the widely circulated video of the incident. El-Chibi accused El-Shahat of slapping, insulting, intimidating, and threatening physical harm in front of a large audience.

The incident occurred on 23 July 2023, following Ahly's 3-0 defeat at the 30 June Stadium.
