Pope Tawadros II receives China’s head of National Religious Affairs

The Head of Egypt’s Coptic Orthodox Church Pope Tawadros II received the Head of the National Religious Affairs in China Chen Ruifeng, where they discussed ways to boost ties between the Coptic Orthodox Church and China.

According to the Coptic Orthodox Church, Pope Tawadros II met with Ruifeng and his delegation and representatives from the Bible Society in Egypt at the papal headquarters in Cairo on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Pope Tawadros II spoke about the Coptic Orthodox Church, providing a brief history of the Church's ties with other Christian denominations and how its influence has spread to countries as far away as the Philippines and Indonesia.

He also noted the presence of several Coptic families in China.

The Pope of the Coptic Orthodox Church explained that Egyptians have lived together in harmony along the Nile River since ancient times, highlighting the good relations with President El-Sisi, the Egyptian government, parliament, and Al-Azhar.

The Chinese official said the Chinese government supports religious freedom and the practice of different religions, pointing out the presence of various religions in China

 Ruifeng also expressed his hope to strengthen the ties between his country and the Coptic Orthodox Church.

Furthermore, the meeting discussed the importance of promoting religious tourism for Chinese visitors to Egypt, particularly the Holy Family route.

Pope Tawadros II also commended China for allowing the printing of the Bible in Arabic to serve Arabic-speaking Christians there.
