Egypt’s World Cup qualifying group: Sierra Leone claim narrow win over Djibouti

Sierra Leone earned their first win in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers on Wednesday when they defeated Djibouti 2-1 at Stade El Abdi in Morocco where the Sierra Leone national team play their home matches.

Curtis Davies gave Sierra Leone an early lead in the 12 nd minute, while Gabriel Dadzie leveled the score in the 35 th minute.

Augustus Kargbo scored the winner six minutes into the second half, helping his national team claim their first win.

Sierra Leone who started the qualifiers with an away goalless draw against Ethiopia before losing 2-0 at home to Egypt are now fourth in the Group with four points, two behind leaders Egypt who will take on Burkina Faso on Thursday.

Ethiopia will host Guinea Bissau in the same round also on Thursday.
