Sudan soar to Group B summit, Libya maintain lead in World Cup Qualifiers

Sudan and Libya secured victories in their respective groups of the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup on Thursday.



Sudan stunned Mauritania 2-0 in Nouakchott as Seif Teiri, who plays for Egyptian Premier League side Pharco FC, opened the scoring for the visitors in the 15th minute. 

Mauritania's Aly Abeid scored in his own net in the 29th minute to double the lead. 

Sudan now lead Group B with seven points frion two wins and a draw, while Mauritania lie at the Group bottom with a single point.

Meanwhile, in Benghazi, Libya claimed a hard-fought 2-1 win over Mauritius. 

Faisal Al Badri put Libya ahead after scoring from the spot in the 20th minute, but Kevin Brou levelled the score for Mauritius 14 minutes later. 

Ahmed Ekrwa restored Libya's lead five minutes later, helping his side keep their place on the Group summit with seven points.
