Such a sizzling spell of weather is nothing new for Egypt South, particularly its southernmost town of Aswan.
The towns of Daraw and Kharga recorded the same temperature degrees on 6 June 2006 and 31 July 2007 respectively, noted the EMA.
These instances of extreme temperatures, which affected much of the country in recent days, highlight a worrying trend of escalating heat waves affecting the region as temperatures continue to rise globally.
Experts attribute this to a combination of global climate change and local environmental factors, which together create conditions ripe for such record-breaking heat.
They also warn that such extreme heat events may become more frequent and severe.
EMA has advised citizens to stay indoors, remain hydrated, and avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours.
