The impressive win catapulted the Indomitable Lions to the summit of Group D, tied on seven points with Libya but with a superior goal difference.

Right from the start, the hosts established their dominance, with Michael Ngadeu opening the scoring in the 13th minute through a powerful header from the center of the box.

Twelve minutes later, Captain Vincent Aboubakar doubled the lead, clinically finishing from close range.

Cape Verde briefly threatened a comeback when Jamiro Monteiro netted from close range in the 37th minute, but the Indomitable Lions swiftly restored their two-goal advantage.

In the 44th minute, Aboubakar confidently converted a penalty after Cape Verde's defense was caught off guard, ensuring Cameroon took a 3-1 lead into halftime.

The second half saw no respite from the relentless hosts, as Nouhou Tolo headed in from close range in the 54th minute, securing a 4-1 victory for the Indomitable Lions.

Despite Cape Verde making several substitutions in an attempt to stage a comeback, Cameroon's defense remained resolute, thwarting any potential threats.

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana emerged as a hero in stoppage time, denying Cape Verde a goal from the penalty spot.

The win puts Cameroon joint top alongside Libya, setting the stage for their crucial clash against Angola in Luanda on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Cape Verde, who host Libya in their next match, will need to regroup quickly to keep their qualification hopes alive.
