French striker Modeste hints at Ahly departure

Ahly's French striker, Anthony Modeste, has explained his lack of playing time with the Red Devils, attributing it to the club's decision not to renew his contract as he believes that he is one of the team's top scorers.

Modeste joined Ahly last summer on a one-year contract with the option to extend it for another season, but the contract extension is contingent upon a specific playing time requirement in the first season.

However, despite having numerous opportunities, the 36-year-old failed to establish himself within the team.

Ahly coach Marcel Koller faced severe criticism from the team's fans for consistently starting Modeste in domestic league matches.

In response to these critics, the Swiss coach opted for winter signing Wessam Abou Ali over the French striker during the semi-finals and finals of the Champions League.

"My contract with the team is for one season with an option to extend it for another season if I play a specific time." Modeste told French newspaper lequipe

"I think that this condition is the main reason for his lack of playing time, especially considering my contributions as one of the team's best scorers."

Modeste scored five goals in 25 appearances across all competitions, helping Ahly win the Egypt Cup, Egyptian Super Cup, and the CAF Champions League.
