The 33-year-old, officiated 26 games in all competitions last season including 18 La Liga games.

Ahly will host Zamalek at Cairo International Stadium in a league game on Sunday.

Tuesday’s derby will be the first with a foreign referee in charge since the game of January 2023 as the country’s football Association opted for Egyptian most of the time in the past two seasons.

Ahly have asked the (EFA) to appoint a foreign referee for the derby, stressing that they will bear the cost of their appointment.

It is unclear whether Zamalek will participate in the Cairo derby or not, as the White Knights have announced their intention to boycott league games due to perceived inequality in the competition.

This primarily relates to concerns regarding the rescheduling of delayed games from the first round.

Ahly currently lie second in the domestic league table with 42 points from 18 games, 17 points behind leaders Pyramids FC who played six games more. Meanwhile, Zamalek lie in the 11th place with 34 points from 20 games.
