Six other residents were injured in the collapse, the source said on Monday.
Civil protection units have already retrieved the bodies of the victims from the rubbles after 18 hours of research and rescue efforts.
Initial inspections indicate that the high level of sewage water in the area likely caused the collapse, the source added.
He noted that the building was built nearly 90 years ago and has no licensing files in the governorate’s engineering department.
No demolition decisions have been issued for the structure, the source added.
Municipal authorities have ordered the evacuation of eight adjacent buildings for the safety of their residents.
The prosecution has initiated an investigation into the incident.
The accident is the latest in a series of building disasters in Egypt over recent years that have injured and killed residents.
These accidents are often due to old or compromised structures.
