Ministers Kamel El-Wazir, Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar to serve as PM deputies in new cabinet

Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar will serve as deputies to Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly in his new cabinet.

The new cabinet of Madbouly comprising 30 ministers, most of whom are new, will take the oath before President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi on Wednesday.

Madbouly has been the prime minister since June 2018.

Moreover, new governors are appointed and will take the oath before the president on Wednesday to lead Egypt’s 27 governorates.

While some governors will keep their posts, the majority, including the governors of Cairo, Alexandria, and Giza, have been changed.

El-Wazir has been serving as the transport minister since 2019, leading mega projects on green transportation and huge developments in road and railway networks across Egypt.

According to media reports, he will lead the portfolio of the Ministry of Industry, which has been merged with the Ministry of Transport.

Abdel-Ghaffar is an academic professor who has served as the minister of health since 2022, shifting from serving as the minister of higher education and scientific research since 2017.

El-Wazir served as the chief of staff of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority between 2014 and 2015, before he became the authority’s head in December 2015.

He supervised the New Suez Canal project, one of the landmark projects under the tenure of President El-Sisi, in 2015.

In March 2019, El-Sisi appointed El-Wazir as the transportation minister and promoted him to lieutenant general.

El-Wazir graduated from the Military Technical College in 1980 and holds a Military Science Master's degree.

Abdel-Ghaffar
 

Abdel-Ghaffar, a dentistry professor and former dean of the Faculty of Dentistry of Ain Shams University, has been the health minister since August 2022.

Previously, he served as the higher education minister from February 2017.

Between October 2021 and August 2022, Abdel-Ghaffar served as the higher education minister and acting health minister.

He obtained his Bachelor's degree in dentistry from Cairo University in 1984 and holds a PhD in oral medicine and periodontology from Cairo University and the University of Texas in the US.
