General Abdel-Meguid Saqr takes helm as Egypt's new Minister of Defence

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, the Supreme Commander of the Egyptian Armed Forces, appointed on Wednesday General Abdel-Meguid Saqr as the new Minister of Defence and Military Production.

General Saqr will succeed General Mohamed Zaki, who served as Minister of Defence and Military Production since June 2018.

The new cabinet, led by incumbent Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and comprising 30 ministers, will take the oath before President El-Sisi later on Wednesday.

In September 2018, he was appointed as the Governor of Suez.  

He previously held several positions, including Assistant to the Minister of Defence, Chief of Military Police, and Head of the Morale Affairs Department.

General Saqr has received numerous awards and medals, including the Military Duty Decoration (First Class) and the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.  

He holds a Bachelor's in Military Sciences from the Military Academy and a Master's in Military Science from the Nasser Military Academy.
