The new Islamic year of 1446 AH will commence on Sunday 7 July. According to the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG) astronomical calculations, Dhul-Hijjah month in the current Islamic year will last for a full 30 days.

The sighting of the crescent moon will take place on Friday night. According to NRIAG, Saturday will mark the end of Dhul-Hijjah 1445 AH, and Sunday will be the 1st of Muharram 1446 AH in Egypt and Arab and Islamic countries.

Madbouly's decree announced Thursday to be a paid day off instead of the actual date of the first of Muharram, which will be determined by the sighting of the crescent moon.

This decision applies to employees of ministries, government institutions, public authorities, local administration units, companies of the public business sector, and private sector companies.
