The event aims to facilitate a consensus among the Sudanese civil political forces to build comprehensive and lasting peace in Sudan through a Sudanese-led national dialogue based on a Sudanese-centric vision, according to the statement issued by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Friday.

The ministry further noted that Cairo is committed to making all possible efforts to help Sudan overcome the current crisis and address its serious repercussions whether on the Sudanese people or the region’s security and stability, especially Sudan's neighbouring countries.

The foreign ministry also highlighted that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi is keen to formulate a common vision for Sudan's neighbouring countries and take steps to resolve the crisis.

The Egyptian efforts aim to “spare the blood of the Sudanese people, preserve the Sudanese state and its capabilities, and limit the continuing grave effects of the crisis on neighbouring countries and the security and stability of the region as a whole,” read the statement.

Sudan has been embroiled in a civil war since April last year between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

In July 2023, Egypt hosted Sudan’s Neighboring States Summit to discuss various aspects of the situation in Sudan and possible solutions to end the crisis.

The event was held in the presence of the heads of state and governments of the Central African Republic, Chad, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Libya and South Sudan, among others.

More than 13,000 people have been killed since the Sudanese crisis began, according to the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project.

According to the UN, over eight million Sudanese have been displaced.

Over 500,000 Sudanese have crossed into Egypt since the war's onset, according to data released by the Egyptian government.

Moreover, five million Sudanese are currently residing in Egypt, former Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry revealed in March.
