Preview: Ahly face Talae Al-Geish again as League summit chase continues

Ahram Online , Sunday 7 Jul 2024

For the second time in eight days, Ahly will face Talae Al-Geish in a league game at Cairo Stadium as the Cairo giants aim to move closer to the top of the table.

Ahly

Ahly are second in the table with 54 points, trailing leaders Pyramids FC by 11 points, although Pyramids FC have played four more matches.

The defending champions have secured 11 consecutive wins, including a 4-0 victory over Talae Al-Geish in a delayed game at the beginning of July, and they seek to replicate their performance against the military side.

On paper, Ahly's mission should not be difficult given Talae Al-Geish's poor recent form.

After their heavy loss to Ahly, Talae Al-Geish were held to a goalless draw at home by Ittihad of Alexandria, extending their winless streak to five games.

As a result, they have dropped to 11th place in the league table with 35 points.

Ahly coach Marcel Koller will rely on the excellent recent form of his attacking trio, Wessam Abou Ali, Emam Ashour, and Hussein El-Shahat.

Abou Ali and Emam Ashour both scored twice against Dakhleya last week, while El-Shahat has put in strong performances over the past three games.

Additionally, midfielder Akram Tawfiq, who missed the win over Dakhleya due to an automatic suspension, will be available for selection.

Furthermore, Mahmoud 'Kahraba' Abdel-Moneam, who was suspended by Koller, could make his return to the group after the Swiss coach decided to lift his ban and allow him to rejoin the team.

The game against Talae Al-Geish will be Ahly's last before their clash with Pyramids FC on Friday, and the Red Devils hope to avoid any setbacks before this crucial match.
