In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Egypt's sincere condolences and sympathy to the Somali government and people in this painful tragedy and to the families of the victims, wishing a speedy recovery for the injured.

Cairo further affirmed its full solidarity and support for Somalia's efforts to confront all forms of extremism and terrorism.

Late Sunday, nine people were killed in a powerful car bomb blast at a cafe in Mogadishu that was packed with football fans watching the Euro 2024 final.

No group claimed responsibility for the bombing.

However, the state-run Somali National News Agency said that the attack was carried out by the Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab jihadists.

Al-Shabaab has been waging a bloody insurgency against Somalia's fragile federal government for more than 17 years and has carried out numerous bombings in Mogadishu and other parts of the country.
