"It's been a wonderful journey, especially the last three years," El-Tayeb said according to the Egyptian Squash Federation.
"The time came when I didn't think I could sustain competing at a high level while trying to be a mother," she added.
El-Tayeb, 31, capped her final season with a victory at the Cleveland Open in March. Throughout her career, she reached the finals of 31 tournaments and emerged victorious in a staggering 299 out of 440 international matches played.
"I've been a little tired for most of those three years, but I'm also proud of this time," she continued.
"They've been the best — most rewarding and challenging — years of my career. But after all, I’m very happy to end playing at a very good level. Goodbye to the squash chapter; there’s no comeback this time," she concluded.
The squash star took a break in December 2020 due to pregnancy. Following a year-long hiatus, El-Tayeb made a successful return, clinching the Zed Open title just eight months later — her first win as a mother.
