The rescue operation occurred in the Mediterranean Sea near the coast of Saloum on the Egyptian-Libyan border in the far northwest corner of Egypt.
The media office in Alexandria Governorate announced that they received a signal Thursday from the Alexandria Port Operations Room indicating that an irregular migration vessel was stranded 130 nautical miles from Saloum after its engine failed.
The media office stated that the Egyptian Navy immediately moved to take charge of the situation, transferring the individuals to Pier No. 8 at Alexandria Port.
Seven equipped ambulances and a full medical team were provided.
Additionally, the Directorate of Social Solidarity immediately offered the necessary support to the injured.
The incident resulted in the death of one migrant and five others sustaining critical injuries.
