Despite the 23rd of July falling on a Tuesday, the holiday was delayed to Thursday making it a long weekend. Since 2020, the Egyptian government has pushed holidays falling on weekdays, except Eid El-Fitr, Eid El-Adha, and Coptic Christmas, to Thursdays.

Madbouly added that the decision also applies to workers in ministries, government bodies, public institutions, local administrative bodies, public sector companies, public business sector companies, and the private sector.

The day off celebrates the 72nd anniversary of the 23 July 1952 Revolution, which ushered change in the form of government in Egypt from a monarchy to a republic.
