According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates' Affairs spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid, Cairo offered its condolences to the Ethiopians, wishing the injured speedy recovery.

The death toll from the landslide has risen to 257, the United Nations stated Thursday, warning that the number of victims could soar to 500.

This incident is the deadliest recorded in Ethiopia, Africa's second most populous country, which is often battered by climate-related disasters.

Seasonal rains in southern Ethiopia between April and early May caused flooding, mass displacement, and damage to livelihoods and infrastructure.
