El-Sisi and Déby affirmed their countries' support for all efforts to achieve stability in Libya and a ceasefire in Sudan, according to a statement by the Egyptian presidency.
Both presidents stressed the necessity of achieving a ceasefire to uphold the higher interests of the Sudanese people amid the ongoing conflict and the exacerbation of the humanitarian crisis that requires urgent intervention.
Since April 2023, Sudan has been embroiled in a civil war between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The conflict claimed the lives of more than 13,000 Sudanese and forced thousands to flee the country.
Egypt has since received thousands of Sudanese fleeing the war and hosted several summits to address the crisis.
Sahel Security
According to the Egyptian Presidential Spokesperson Ahmed Fahmy, both leaders also emphasized the need to bolster security in the Sahel region in confronting the ongoing terrorist threats.
They also underscored the necessity of enhancing coordination regarding the role of the Community of Sahel–Saharan States.
During the meeting, El-Sisi welcomed Déby, affirming the deep and longstanding historical ties between both countries and their peoples.
He further reiterated Egypt's commitment to providing full support to Chad across various areas, including transferring and sharing Egyptian expertise in building the capacities of Chad in different developmental sectors.
These sectors include energy, infrastructure, health, education, agriculture, and livestock, Fahmy noted.
This is in addition to bilateral cooperation in the fields of security and counter-terrorism, within Egypt’s keenness to ensure Chad’s security and stability, Fahmy noted.
For his side, the Chadian President lauded the longstanding and close ties between both countries, affirming Chad's dedication to enhancing cooperation with Egypt across various sectors.
Furthermore, Déby praised Egypt’s support to Chad over the past decades and its assistance to the Chadian people in their development efforts.
He also valued the role of active Egyptian institutions and companies in Chad, particularly in supporting infrastructure projects, educational and cultural processes, as well as activities of the Al-Azhar mission in Chad.
During the meeting, both leaders agreed to activate the work of the joint committee between Egypt and Chad to implement the agreed-upon items and to accelerate the implementation of cooperation projects in a manner that serves the interests of both countries.
