In TV remarks, Hazaa attributed this boom to the appeal of the New Alamein Festival, which features a range of cultural activities such as concerts and theatre performances that resonate strongly with Arab audiences.
He praised the city’s infrastructure, modern facilities, comprehensive services, and efficient transportation options.
This has contributed to its growing reputation as a premier global tourist destination, he said, adding that the New Alamein Festival plays a key role in promoting Egyptian tourism on an international scale.
Furthermore, Hazaa pointed out that the proximity of Alamein and Borg El Arab airports in Alexandria has contributed to increasing the number of tourists and visitors to the city.
This has facilitated travel with charter flights from Arab countries taking about two hours and those from Europe approximately five hours, he noted.
He said that competitive pricing for these charter flights has also encouraged more visitors, boosting the city's tourism industry.
Egypt attracted a record-breaking 7.069 million tourists between January and June 2024, compared to 7.062 million tourists in the same period last year.
Tourism revenues in the first half of 2024 reached $6.6 billion, compared to $6.3 billion in 2023, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
Last week, the Ministry of Industry and Transport announced a new transportation service to facilitate access to the New Alamein Festival, with daily luxury bus services from Cairo and Alexandria to New Alamein City.
The festival, running until 30 August, is organised by United Media Services, showcasing concerts, exhibitions, beach activities, and entertainment events.
For the second year, the New Alamein Festival features a wide range of music, culture, shopping, and sports activities that will continue throughout the summer.
