With their 4-1 win over Ceramica Cleopatra on Monday, the Red Devils claimed their 17th successive win to level the record registered in the 2004/2005 season under the guidance of the fabulous Portuguese coach Manuel José da Silva, and they want to set a new record in the domestic league, but it requires defeating NBE Club.
The win will not only give Al Ahly a new record, but it would also help them edge closer to their 44th league title in the club's history and the second in a row.
Ahly are now leading the table with 72 points, two points ahead of second-placed Pyramids FC, who have played three matches more.
The Red Devils need only seven points from their six remaining games to be crowned league champions.
"I'm not interested in records; the most important thing for me is to win the league title, so I want to win all the games," was Al Ahly coach Marcel Koller's answer to a question concerning the possibility of registering a new record.
Additionally, the win is important for the Red Devils, who want to avenge their defeat against NBE Club in the reverse fixture.
NBE Club are one of two teams who have defeated Ahly in the domestic league this season.
Tarek Mostafa's men stunned Ahly by defeating them 4-3 last March in a thrilling game.
The former Zamalek player in the 90s, Tarek Mostafa, signed a two-year extension with the club last week, and there's no better way to prove his worth than a victory against the league leaders.
NBE Club are 12th in the table with 34 points.
