Seeking redemption for an earlier 2-3 loss to Gouna this season, the White Knights commenced the game with intense pressure, while Gouna adopted a defensive stance.
Despite commanding possession, Zamalek struggled to breach Gouna's resolute backline. Their breakthrough arrived 15 minutes into the first half when Zamalek won a penalty following a foul on winger Mostafa Shalaby by Gouna's Mohamed El-Deghemy in the box.
Defender Hamza Mathlouthi calmly dispatched the spot-kick with a right-footed strike into the bottom right corner.
Following the goal, Gouna FC pushed forward in a bid to level the scores, but Zamalek's rising star goalkeeper Mahmoud El-Shennawy thwarted Arnaud Randrianantenaina's attempt with a remarkable save.
Tunisian forward Seifeddine Jaziri appeared to double Zamalek's advantage in the 26th minute with a superb right-footed effort from close range. However, the referee overturned the goal after a VAR review revealed a foul by Seif Farouk on Ayman Moka in the build-up.
Despite their efforts to extend their lead, Zamalek's forwards were unable to breach Gouna's steadfast defense due to their lack of precision.
In the second half, Gouna sustained their offensive pressure on Zamalek, but their forwards' lack of finesse prevented them from breaking through.
With just four minutes remaining, Gouna was left frustrated as a close-range header by second-half substitute Gabrila Chukwudi was denied by the crossbar.
Following this result, Zamalek ascended to fifth place in the league standings with 39 points, while Gouna FC maintained their position in 13th with 33 points, a comfortable six points clear of the relegation zone.
