In jellabiya and Palestinian scarf: Wegz joins Benghazi Festival opening

Famed Egyptian rapper Wegz, Dressed in traditional jellabiya and a Palestinian scarf, took the stage of Benina Stadium in an event that marked the opening of Benghazi Summer Festival.

Footballers Ronaldinho Gaúcho and Gabriel Batistuta were also in the festival's line-up.

Benghazi Summer Festival which kicked off on 1 August will continue until 15 August featuring 27 artists in nine events, focusing on rap, hip-hop, and pop music. The festival will also feature a series of sports events and a book fair.

The opening event included Wegz, one of the leading Egyptian rappers. 

He surprised thousands of attendees by appearing dressed in a traditional jellabiya, expressing his belonging to the Egyptian culture, and a Palestinian scarf to underscore his support of the Palestinian people.

Wegz is among the most popular musicians in Egypt. Since 2020, he secured a space among the most-listened-to musicians on Spotify. 

The Benghazi Summer Festival opening event also featured Tunisian rapper Samara, Algerian hip-hop artist Mouh Milano, and Libyan rappers Mansour Anaoun and Ka7la (Kahla).

The football stars Ronaldinho and Batistuta made a special appearance during the opening. The footballers will inaugurate the sports tournaments taking place during the festival.

The dynamic line-up of the Benghazi Summer Festival will create a spotlight on Libyan rappers, giving the stage to names such as Akhras, Mohammed Lawshayesh, Al Moez, Fares Saber, Issa Ben Dardaf, Mohammed Lawshayesh, and Ma3iz.

They will be joined by their regional counterparts, including Marwan Moussa, Afroto, Balti, Haytham Shaker, Kami, Ghalia, Faraj Najm, Ali Loka, Faris Saber, Small X, and Kaso.

The Benghazi Summer Festival continues until 15 August.
