Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs
In a statement on Saturday, the foreign affairs ministry extended Egypt’s sincere condolences to the government and people of Somalia, wishing the wounded a swift recovery.
The statement reaffirmed Egypt's unwavering solidarity with Somalia in its ongoing battle against terrorism and its pursuit of security and stability.
On Friday, at least 32 people were killed and about 63 others wounded in a suicide bombing and gun attack on a popular beach in Mogadishu, according to reports.
A suicide bomber blew himself up at the entrance of Lido Beach Hotel, while other attackers tried to storm the hotel and also fired on people on the beach, according to witnesses and police.
Al-Shabab, an al-Qaeda-linked armed group, has claimed responsibility for the attack.
This group has been waging a prolonged insurgency in a bid to overthrow Somalia's central government.
It has committed numerous bombings and other attacks across the capital and country over the past 17 years.
