Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan arrives in North Sinai governorate, 4 August, 2024.
Fidan's remarks came during a press conference at the Rafah border crossing held during his visit to North Sinai Governorate.
North Sinai Governor Khaled Megawer received him.
"I have reviewed the work done in Egypt at El-Arish Port and the Rafah crossing with Egyptian officials," Fidan said.
He noted that his country is the largest provider of humanitarian aid to Gaza. "However, our primary aim here is not to discuss Turkish aid but to draw global attention to the genocide in Gaza," Fidan added.
He said Israeli actions, including closing the border crossing, targeting aid convoys, killing aid workers, preventing the evacuation of patients and civilians, and causing foodstuff in thousands of aid trucks to spoil, constitute crimes against humanity and the first stage of the genocide happening on the other side of the border.
"The world must no longer stay silent about the Israeli administration's cruelty and must make greater efforts to ensure aid reaches Gaza without hindrance or interruption," Fidan said, stressing the need to end the ongoing 10-month Israeli war on Gaza.
In addition, he indicated that Turkey’s government, citizens, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) will steadfastly support the Palestinians and continue to fulfil its moral and humanitarian duty.
For his part, Khaled Megawer stressed that the governorate is exerting great efforts to receive aid and humanitarian assistance and transfer it to the Gaza Strip.
Megawer also pointed out that the governorate receives aid from Arab and foreign countries and regional and international organisations through three channels: trucks by land, ships by sea, through El-Arish port, and aeroplanes through El-Arish International Airport.
He added that the aid arriving in North Sinai is being stored in several logistically equipped warehouses to be delivered to the Gaza Strip in coordination between the Egyptian Red Crescent, its Palestinian counterpart, and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
Earlier Sunday, the Turkish minister and his accompanying delegation began their two-day visit to Egypt by touring the logistics warehouses of the Egyptian Red Crescent in El-Arish and the Rafah border crossing in North Sinai.
Fidan is scheduled to meet Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty in Cairo on Monday to discuss regional escalations and bilateral ties.
Two diplomatic sources told Ahram Online that the preparations for President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s visit to Turkey top the agenda of the meeting.
In February, the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited Cairo. The Egyptian president's visit has been anticipated since then.
On 7 May, Israel launched its assault on Rafah, taking over the Palestinian side of the crossing between Gaza and Egypt for the first time since Israel pulled out its soldiers and settlers from the strip in 2005.
Egypt has demanded the withdrawal of the Israeli troops from the Palestinian side of the crossing, stressing that only the Egyptians and Palestinians have the right to manage the crossing.
Not a single aid truck has entered Gaza through the Rafah crossing since the incursion of the Israeli forces into the Palestinian side of the crossing.
Over the past months, Egypt coordinated with the UN to facilitate the entry of several trucks into the Gaza Strip through the Karm Abu Salem border crossing.
Israel, whose brutal war on Gaza has continued for nearly ten months, is facing mounting international pressure to agree to a Gaza ceasefire.
Since the war began on 7 October, Israeli forces have killed 39,550 people, injured 91,280, caused extensive damage to Gaza's infrastructure, and displaced most of the strip’s residents.
