According to a statement by the Egyptian foreign ministry, the discussions confirmed a shared vision between the two countries that the immediate step needed to stop the current escalation in the region is reaching a ceasefire in the Gaza war and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Palestinians in the strip.

This must be followed by addressing the root cause of the crisis in the region through steps to establish an independent Palestinian state, added the statement.

Abdelatty emphasized to Safadi Cairo's belief that the current regional instability and increased risks of a broader conflict could lead to catastrophic consequences.

The two top diplomats reaffirmed that this instability is a direct result of the negative impacts of the ongoing war in Gaza and the international community's failure to pressure Israel to halt its aggression against the Palestinian people.

FM Abdelatty call with the Jordanian foreign minister is the latest of the Egyptian communications with various parties in the region to defuse the current escalation the region in the aftermath of recent Israeli assassination of senior Hezbollah military commander Fouad Shukur in south Beirut and the head of Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.

Also on Tuesday, FM Abdelatty discussed the latest developments in Gaza and ceasefire efforts with his Algerian and Italian counterparts over the phone.

According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, Abdelatty updated his Algerian counterpart Ahmed Attaf on Egypt's intensive efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza war, contain regional escalation, and work towards calming the situation to prevent a full-scale war that would threaten regional security and stability.
