FM Abdelatty discussed with his Algerian counterpart Ahmed Attaf the latest developments in Gaza and Egypt's intensive efforts and communications with all active parties to reach a ceasefire and contain regional escalation to prevent a full-scale war that threatens the region’s security and stability.

The foreign ministers discussed Egypt’s efforts with several issues on the agendas of the African Union and the United Nations, reaffirming the importance of maintaining coordination and consultations, given the alignment of views on many issues.

Abdelatty highlighted the ongoing coordination and consultations between the Egyptian and Algerian sides on various issues, particularly Algeria's pivotal role as the Arab non-permanent member of the UN Security Council (2024-2025).

The Algerian foreign minister reiterated the strong historical ties between the two countries, underscoring the importance of consultations and coordination in facing the current regional challenges.

A call from the Italian counterpart
 

FM Abdelatty received a phone call from his Italian counterpart Antonio Tajani, discussing the latest regional developments and Egyptian efforts to contain the regional escalation.

Abdelatty informed Tajani about his recent communications with foreign ministers from various regional countries, the United States, Russia, and several European countries over the past days, aimed at containing the tension and escalation.

He reiterated Egypt's rejection of Israel's assassination policy and violation of regional sovereignty, which exacerbated tension and unrest.

Egypt’s top diplomat stressed the country’s reliance on Italy's continued support in implementing the comprehensive strategic partnership with the EU, including related financial packages.

The foreign ministers also discussed the Egyptian-Italian efforts to enhance stability, combat terrorism, and promote development in Africa and coordination between the two countries in international forums.

The Italian foreign minister expressed his country's appreciation for the strong and special ties with Egypt and his eagerness to meet his Egyptian counterpart on the sidelines of the upcoming United Nations General Assembly in September.

The Egyptian foreign minister approved the idea, and both agreed to continue coordination and consultations in the future.
