National Theatre Festival
 

It will continue until 15 August.

In its 17th edition this year, Egypt's National Theatre Festival was originally scheduled to kick off on 15 July but was moved to 30 July.

The festival, named after Egyptian iconic actress Samiha Ayoub, continues until mid-August, with plays staged in numerous theatres across Cairo.

New films across cinemas
 

Wednesday 7 August brings several new films to movie theatres across Egypt:

- Borderlands, starring Ariana Greenblatt, Kevin Hart, Bobby Lee, and Haley Bennett;

- Cat & Dog, starring Franck Dubosc, Philippe Lacheau, and Reem Kherici;

- Trap, a horror movie, starring Josh Hartnett, Ariel Donoghue, and Saleka Shyamalan;

- It Ends with Us, an adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel, starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni;

- Hit Man, a comedy film, starring Adria Arjona and Glen Powell.

Memo - theatre

Memo is directed by Hesham Atwa and written by Diaa Mohamed.

The play revolves around Masoud a marginalized member of his community portrayed by Ahmed Helmy who decides to prove himself unconventionally. 

The cast includes also Hannah El-Zahed, Ahmed Rizk, Hamdi El-Marghani, Mohamed Radwan, Rahma Ahmed, and Nour Ehab.

 

 

El-Sindbad play - theatre
 

Thursday 8 to 10 August, 10pm
U Theatre, Alamein, North Coast, Egypt

It is a fantasy play that follows Omar the Sphinx (Karim Abdel-Aziz), who finds a magic necklace in an old tomb, which takes him back to the time of Sinbad. He decides to impersonate that character to live a life of adventure and heroism.

The cast includes Bayoumi Fouad, Mostafa Khater, and Shaimaa Seif.

The play is part of the ongoing New Alamein Festival on the North Coast. Check the full programme here.

 

 

Black Theama - music

Performing on many stages in Egypt and in the region to thousands of their fans, Black Theama were nominated at the 2013 World Music Awards for Best Group, Best Live Act, Best Song, and Best Video Clip for the song Fi Belad Al-Ayy Haga (In the Country of the Anything).

With the band members coming from Aswan, it is only natural that their compositions and arrangements create an interesting fusion between Nubian, Sudanese, and other African influences, alongside reggae, hip-hop, and R&B.

 

 

Wael Kfoury - music

Porto Golf, North Coast, Egypt

The Lebanese pop star Wael Kfoury debuted with his first album in 1994 and has since released around 15 albums.

Known for his romantic songs, his latest release is the single Helw El Hob (June 2024).

Wael Kfoury held his last concert on the North Coast in 2022.

 

 

Amr Diab - music
 

Friday 9 August, 10pm
Musical Arena, Alamein, North Coast, Egypt

Egypt’s megastar will perform a selection of his well-known songs in the second edition of the New Alamein Festival.

Last June, Al-Hadaba, as he is referred to by his fans, released two singles: Tetehabi and El Ta'ama.

Diab, 62, is by far the most successful singer of his generation.

The Guinness World Record holder remains among the most-listened-to artists on streaming platforms, with his live concerts attended by thousands. 

The singer has released over 30 albums and garnered countless regional and international accolades in his decades-long career.

 

 

Marja Burchard and Yassin Mahgoub
 

Saturday 10 August, 8:30pm 
Open Air Theatre, Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Alexandria

The German multi-instrumentalist and the Egyptian artist will be playing fusion music.

Burchard, 39, is the daughter of musician Christian Burchard.

Mahgoub performs regularly in different venues in Egypt.

Abu - music
 

Monday 12 August, 8:30pm
Open Air Theatre, Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Alexandria

Mohamed Abu-Elenein, known as Abu, rose to fame after his song Talat Daqat (Three Beats), viewed over 857 million times on YouTube. 

Most of Abu’s songs tend to radiate energy, happiness, and hope.
