The meeting was held in New Alamein City.

Egyptian Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy stated that El-Sisi and Saleh expressed keenness to continue coordination and consultations at various levels to support regional security and stability.

During the meeting, El-Sisi said Egypt is keen on enhancing the distinguished relations and cooperation between the two countries to benefit their people and achieve common interests, in light of the mounting regional challenges, which require intensifying discussions on ways to address them.

President El-Sisi also received a written message from his Eritrean counterpart Isaias Afwerki, who expressed his country's appreciation for bilateral relations with Egypt and keenness to enhance consultations on issues of mutual interest, Fahmy added.

Horn of Africa tensions have escalated after Somaliland agreed in January to lease 20 kilometres of its coastline for 50 years to Addis Ababa, which wants to build a naval base and commercial port there, giving landlocked Ethiopia access to the Red Sea.

Following this deal, Egypt reasserted that it would stand by Somalia and support its security and stability, emphasizing the need to respect its sovereignty over its lands.

In February, El Sisi discussed the latest developments in the Horn of Africa with Afwerki in Cairo, where they stressed the need to respect Somalia's sovereignty.
