President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi stressed Thursday to his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron in a phone call the importance of concerted international efforts to advance a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, as the continuation of the war in the strip is the basis of the current escalation in the region.

During the call, El-Sisi and Macron discussed the latest regional and international developments, according to Egypt's Presidential Spokesperson Ahmed Fahmy.

The Egyptian president tackled the country's intensive communications with all parties to halt the regional escalation which risks sparking a widespread confrontation that Egypt has been warning about for months.

In addition, he emphasized the international community's responsibility to address the root causes of the conflict by establishing an independent Palestinian state and implementing the two-state solution.

For his side, the French president expressed deep appreciation for Egypt's relentless and genuine efforts in addressing the situation since the onset of the crisis.

During the call, both presidents emphasized the necessity of delivering humanitarian aid in adequate amounts to all areas of Gaza Strip and ensuring that access to aid remains unaffected by regional developments, Fahmy noted.

El-Sisi and Macron also agreed to intensify efforts and coordination in the future to ensure the regional security and stability.

International diplomatic efforts have recently increased to avoid an escalation between Israel and the Lebanese group Hezbollah, following an Israeli strike on Beirut that killed Hezbollah’s military chief Fouad Shukur.

Additionally, Iran, which backs Hezbollah, has also vowed to retaliate against Israel after the assassination of Hamas’ political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.

Meanwhile, the US deployed more warships and fighter jets to the Middle East to support Israel in defending against potential threats from both Iran and Hezbollah.

Egypt has been leading efforts since the outbreak of the Israeli war on Gaza to deliver aid to civilians who are facing near-starvation conditions due to an Israeli blockade on the strip.

Since 7 October, Israeli forces have killed nearly 40,000 people, injured over 90,000, caused extensive damage to Gaza's infrastructure, and displaced most of the strip’s residents.
