According to a presidential statement, President El-Sisi underscored to his Cypriot counterpart the need to maintain regional security and stability through de-escalating tension in the Palestinian territories and the region.
He highlighted the priorities of Cairo’s stance and efforts towards halting the escalation in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing the danger of the continuation of the Israeli war.
Moreover, he cautioned against entering a vicious circle of response and counter-response, which does not serve the interests of all peoples in the region.
The Egyptian president warned of the ongoing deterioration of the humanitarian conditions in the strip, added the statement.
For his side, the Cypriot president affirmed his keenness to coordinate and consult with Egypt to prevent the region from sliding into war.
Both leaders stressed the necessity of advancing the political path based on the two-state solution to achieve peace, security, and stability in the region.
They also emphasized the need to further enhance relations across various fields, both bilaterally and through the tripartite cooperation mechanism with Greece, especially in the economic and energy sectors.
On Thursday, leaders of Egypt, the US, and Qatar called on Israel and Hamas to resume the ceasefire talks next week whether in Cairo or Doha to close all remaining gaps and implement the deal without further delay.
Egypt, along with the US and Qatar, has been mediating indirect talks between Israel and Hamas to reach a ceasefire in the 10-month-old Israeli war in Gaza.
These talks have been recently complicated following Israeli assassinations in Iran of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh and top Hezbollah commander Fouad Shukur in Lebanon.
Since 7 October, Israel has killed nearly 40,000 people in Gaza, mostly children and women, injured over 90,000 others, caused extensive damage to the strip's infrastructure, and displaced most of the Palestinians.
