People check the damage after an Israeli strike hit a school sheltering displaced Palestinians in Gaza City on August 10, 2024, that killed more than 90 people. AFP
Israel bombed Al-Tabi’een School, east of Gaza, during Saturday’s dawn prayer, killing more than 100 Palestinians and injuring dozens of others.
It is “a shameful crime, a blatant violation of all religions, customs, provisions, and principles of international law and international humanitarian law, and a disregard for the value of man and the sanctity of his soul,” the mufti asserted.
The mufti criticized the international community’s silence, underscoring that these brutal attacks devoid of all human feelings are a stain on the forehead of humanity.
Allam noted that the Israeli entity is thirsty for more bloodshed of children, women, the elderly, and the innocent and for targeting hospitals and places of worship.
This “confirms that we are witnessing war crimes and complete genocide in full view of the international community,” he added.
In a separate statement, Egypt’s Al-Azhar said targeting innocent civilians who were standing before God performing the dawn prayer, along with women, children, and the elderly, is a crime that all human languages are unable to express its cruelty, heinousness, and barbarity.
Al-Azhar – the world's most influential Sunni Islamic institution – urged exerting more pressure on the terrorist Israeli entity to stop its crimes and genocidal acts against the Palestinians.
The Israeli attack came hours after leaders of Egypt, the US, and Qatar called on the Israeli government and Hamas in a joint statement to resume the ceasefire talks next Thursday.
Earlier today, Egypt condemned the attack, especially as it occurred amid intensive mediation efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza.
Egypt asserted that this is clear evidence of the lack of Israel's will to end this “fierce war,” the statement pointed out.
