Egypt FM attends Rwandan president inauguration ceremony in Kigali

Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty arrived on Sunday in Rwanda's capital Kigali to attend the inauguration ceremony of Rwandan President Paul Kagame, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

The visit which underscores the strong ties between Egypt and Rwanda will also include meetings with several officials who will also attend the inauguration, the Egyptian foreign ministry announced.

Moreover, it will feature various bilateral activities, including discussions with the Rwandan foreign and health ministers.

In addition, Minister Abdelatty and renowned heart surgeon Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub will participate in a ceremony celebrating the completion of the first phase of the Magdi Yacoub Rwanda-Egypt Heart Centre, a landmark project aimed at enhancing healthcare cooperation between the two nations.

This is Sir Yacoub's third heart centre in Africa after the Cardiac Centre of Ethiopia and the Aswan Heart Centre in Egypt.

The Rwanda Heart Care and Research Foundation will equip a 30-bed state-of-the-art hospital and research facility in Masaka district in the Rwandan capital.

The Egyptian Agency for Partnership and Development (EAPD), affiliated with the Egyptian foreign ministry, will donate the hospital's equipment  two cardiac theatres, a catheter lab, nine fully equipped intensive care beds, six progressive care beds, and 15 ward beds.

Furthermore, Abdelatty will meet with the Egyptian community members in Rwanda and participate in a roundtable discussion with leading Rwandan business figures and private sector representatives, as part of Egypt's ongoing efforts to strengthen economic and community ties with Rwanda.
