Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the health ministry, said that this award is given to healthcare units with low mortality rates, which meticulously comply with international standards and best practices in stroke patient care.

Al-Haram Hospital's stroke unit was established in November 2021.

Director of Al-Haram Hospital Mansour Khalil noted that the stroke unit had treated 1,586 patients, performing 142 diagnostic cerebral catheterization procedures and 106 therapeutic ones.

Dr. Maha Ibrahim, Head of the Specialized Medical Centres Secretariat, highlighted the hospital’s significant development as its capacity increased from four to 16 beds, reflecting the growing demand for specialized stroke care.

The WSO award

The WSO aims to improve stroke care standards globally through initiatives, like the WSO Angels Awards programme.

This programme recognizes hospitals that meet strict criteria in stroke treatment, awarding Gold, Platinum, or Diamond status based on their performance.

According to WSO, Al-Haram Hospital has achieved high levels of efficiency and quality in stroke care, meeting or exceeding 75 percent in key performance areas.

Therefore, earning them the Platinum status signifies their commitment to providing excellent and timely care for stroke patients.

Meanwhile, according to the World Bank, in 2024, Egypt's health expenditure as a percentage of its GDP stands at approximately 4.7 percent, reflecting a balanced approach to healthcare spending.
