In a meeting on Monday, South Korean Ambassador to Egypt Kim Yonghyon met with Egyptian Culture Minister Ahmed Hanno to discuss ways to strengthen cultural cooperation.

Ambassador Kim highlighted the strong growth of bilateral relations since the 2016 Comprehensive Cooperative Partnership.

Underling the popularity of Hallyu (a Korean cultural wave) in Egypt, Kim emphasized expanding cultural exchanges in areas like language, tourism, and sports.

He briefed Hanno on the activities of the Korean Cultural Centre (KCC), which is set to celebrate its 10th anniversary this year.

He noted that 5,135 Egyptians learned Korean at the KCC’s King Sejong Institute from 2021 to 2023.

As the two countries mark 30 years of diplomatic ties in 2025, Kim pledged to deepen cultural cooperation.

During the meeting, he provided an overview of the meaningful cultural events planned for this year and the next year.

Minister Hanno thanked Kim for his work, highlighting growing people-to-people and cultural ties since the countries established diplomatic relations.

He hoped the 30th anniversary in 2025 would deepen cooperation and pledged continued communication.

Both officials discussed making 2025 the "Year of Korea-Egypt Cultural Exchange" and cooperating on cultural intellectual property rights and cultural Official Development Assistance (ODA).

They agreed to strengthen ties and explore future collaborations.
