Prince Hassan's remarks were addressed to writers from the Union of Writers in Africa, Asia, and Latin America and the heads of writers' unions in Jordan, Iraq, Syria, Palestine, and Lebanon who participated in the Arab Thought Forum in Amman.

Egyptian writer Ahmed Al-Moslemany, the former adviser to the President and Secretary-General of the Union of Writers of Africa, Asia, and Latin America, presented an overview of the vision that emerged from the forum's discussions during a session chaired by Prince Hassan, who is the President and Patron of the Arab Thought Forum.

Prince Hassan praised the efforts of the Union of Writers of Africa, Asia, and Latin America, calling on the 66-year-old Union to participate in formulating a new Arab knowledge vision that can overcome current challenges, deal with trajectories and outcomes, and restore a balanced intellectual presence in public life.

Dr Al-Sadiq Al-Faqihi, a well-known Sudanese diplomat and academic and Secretary-General of the Arab Thought Forum, said the consultative intellectual meeting of the writers' unions of neighbouring countries and the Union of Writers of Africa and Asia aims to discuss a cultural roadmap in light of the changes and challenges facing the region, which threaten its intellectual and political security.

The intellectual consultations in the Jordanian capital, Amman, saw the participation of a group of intellectuals and academics from the Jordanian Writers Association, headed by Dr. Muwaffaq Mahdain.

Furthermore, the Palestinian Writers Union, headed by poet Murad Al-Sudani, the Syrian Writers Union, headed by Dr. Mohamed Hourani, the Iraqi Writers Union, headed by writer Ali Al-Fawaz, and the Lebanese Writers Union, headed by Dr. Ahmed Nazal, participated in the discussions.

Al-Moslemany said in a statement issued by the Union of Writers of Africa, Asia, and Latin America: "The meeting with Prince Hassan bin Talal was very special, as His Highness raised many central ideas in culture, politics, and history and also presented practical ways to enhance Arab cultural movement and support cultural rights and intellectual dignity. The ambitions of the Secretary-General, Dr. Al-Sadiq Al-Faqihi, regarding the initiative to renew Arab thought in 2024 have given strong momentum to serious discussion and effective dialogue."

The Union of Writers of Africa and Asia was founded in 1958 in Sri Lanka. It held its founding conference in Turkey. Then, Latin America joined it after the Union's conference in Vietnam in 2013. When writer Youssef Al-Sebai, the former Egyptian Minister of Culture, took over the leadership of the Union, he moved its headquarters to Cairo.

The Union is considered the intellectual backbone of the Non-Aligned Movement and includes 47 countries from three continents. Several renowned writers and intellectuals have occupied key leadership positions in the Union, including, most famously, the Egyptian writer and thinker Lutfi-Al-Khouli, who became Secretary-General of the Union following Youssef Al-Sebai.

The Union's distinct members included, among others, writer Abdel-Rahman Al-Sharqawi, the poet Mahmoud Darwish, writer Edward Al-Kharrat, and several figures of knowledge and enlightenment.
